Coats for Kids 2022

It is a landmark year for Dermody Cleaners of Taunton. This year marks their 30th annual Coats for Kids Drive. The celebrated area dry cleaning and laundry business will clean the donated coats free of charge and deliver them to Saint Vincent de Paul Society’s Center on Washington Street in Taunton for distribution to those in need. Since the drive’s inception, the Coats for Kids drive has cleaned and donated over 50,000 coats.

Residents of the area are invited to donate children’s gently worn winter coats which they themselves are no longer using to any of the Dermody Cleaners: 34 Cohannet Street (downtown, across from the Taunton Gazette), 648 County Street (Hart’s Four Corners), 330 Bedford Street in Lakeville (Sava’s Plaza) and the Press Club on Route 6 in Somerset.

Terry Dermody, speaking for Dermody Cleaners had this to say about this year’s landmark drive: “The world is a much different place than it was 30 years ago when we started to collect coats, however the basic needs of humankind remain the same- people need food, shelter, and warmth. We are more than happy to do our small part in helping our community and we appreciate the generous support and enthusiasm that our loyal customers have provided this campaign over the last three decades.”

Mr. Dermody wants to thank the additional efforts and support put forth every year by Crossed Sabers Ski & Sport of Raynham, Berkley Middle School, the Segregansett Country Club and Taunton Extended Day Care, this winter season. He especially would like to thank the Saint Vincent DePaul Society for their continual cooperation.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Center is located at 141 Washington Street in Taunton and is open Monday thru Friday 9 am to noon and Wednesday evenings between the hours of 5:30 to 7 pm, for the food pantry. In the event of an emergency, anyone can call upon the Vincentians to respond at once. The telephone number for such an emergency is 1-508-823-6676.

The “Coats for Kids” campaign is the main community service campaign conducted by Dermody Cleaners. Other community projects include their Holiday Food Drive and ongoing support of the Boys and Girls Club of Metro South.
